The Experimental Analysis of Dust Deposition Effect on Solar Photovoltaic Panels in Iran Desert Environment

چکیده:

Dust soiling on photovoltaic (PV) panels degrades efficient operation of solar power plants. However, there is a scientific gap in investigating physio-chemical characteristics of deposited dust on the PV panels, which leads to a better understanding of soiling effects on PV arrays in the Iran desert environments. Moreover, no such studies were conducted in these environments to perform indoor experiments for analyzing the impacts of dust accumulations on the electrical performance of PV panels. This paper aims to fill the research gap by looking at the dust accumulation impacts on PV performance in Iran's desert atmosphere by breaking down the residue qualities and ascertaining the degradation of PV outputs in indoor conditions. Several experimental tests including scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), and elemental mapping (EMAP) were conducted to examine the morphology and chemical structure of collected dust from the surface of the PV modules. This paper also tries to set up a general relationship between loss of dust deposition and degradation of PV execution by testing different dust samples on PV performance. Based on morphological results, more than half of the particles are smaller than 5 μm. According to XRF results, SiO2 and CaO are the main constituents of dust particles. Experiment on the electrical performance of the PV panel revealed that increase in the amount of deposited dust would decrease output power, as well as short circuit current of the PV panels. However, a small decrease is seen on the open-voltage of the PV panel.
