We are interested in this practical work in two protocols: The window protocol and the Hamming code The anticipation window protocol is a protocol based on the following points:

 1. Sending several frames before receiving an acknowledgment.

 2. The number of frames allowed to be sent is indicated by the transmitter window.

 3. The number of frames acceptable to the receiver is indicated by the receiver window.

 The Hamming code allows the detection/correction of an error in a series of bits when it is received.

The purpose of this practical work is to produce a program illustrating the operation of an LLC layer with a multiple times (selective) bidirectional protocol (see the example proposed by Tanenbaum / Protocol 6) as well as to implement a Hamming code in order to  detect/correct transmission errors.

The code provided represents a simplified simulator of a network stack.  It is a system for simulating several machines connected to each other on a network.  Each machine runs several "threads" which represent the different layers of the network communication model.  Each of the simulated computers comprises a mini driver (“driver”) which contains the link layer (high link sub-layer and low link sub-layer) and a simplified network layer.  Each layer contains two execution queues, one for receiving data and the other for sending data.  The network layer reads the file to be sent and separates it into packets.  The packets are sent to the upper link layer which you must modify in order to implement the requested protocol.  Your protocol must send its frames to the lower link sublayer, which is responsible for sending the data over the transmission medium.  In the illustration above, A and B represent different simulated computers.  In each of the computers, each of the layers is indicated as well as the transfer of information between the layers.  The transmission medium is represented by C. At the end, your final program will have to allow the copying of a file between computer A and B and vice versa.

Note: The attached document "Simulator Documentation.pdf" will give you a description of the simulatori parameters, as well as information on the structure of the code and the methods of the link layer that you will have to use in order to communicate without problems between the "  threads” for receiving and sending the layer.

Note: It is strongly advised to use the functionalities of the Logger class provided in order to produce text at the

  console.  This object will better handle writing to the console in a multithreaded system

 • You may not need to modify the requested .h files.  You must still submit them
