1. for H3, in my opinion, the regional setting is also a crucial factor in innovation (Francisco Mas-Verdú, Dionisio Ortiz-Miranda, José María García-Álvarez-Coque, 2016). So, the effects of the country-wide perspective have some bias. Please explain the supporting literature and theories for H3 more clearly.

2. In H4, the Publication year is shown as a moderation variable. A moderator variable is a variable that affects the strength or direction of the relationship between two other variables. The moderator variable can be used to explain why the relationship between the independent and dependent variables varies across separate groups or conditions. However, the authors grouped the moderator variables instead of varying the dependent variable. Also, I cannot see whether the moderator variable increases or decreases the strength of innovation on organizational performance.  

3. What are your control variables? Firms' size can affect innovation.

4. Dong et al. (2014,https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jengtecman.2013.11.001) showed that distinct types of eco-innovation significantly influence environmental performance and competitiveness. So, please explain more clearly how the typology of innovations is selected.

I appreciate having the opportunity to review this manuscript. Using meta-analysis technique, this study examines the effect of innovation on organizational performance, and its contingencies upon country, continent, year of publication and innovation type. I find this research has merit to some extents, however, I do want to share some of my concerns about the paper. Hopefully my comments can help further develop the paper.

Literature review in paragraph 2-5 should be updated and relocated. You have to briefly summarize existing findings and knowledge inadequacies. More importantly, studies that conduct similar analysis (e.g., meta-analysis) should be particularly introduced, summarized, and discussed. For instance, in paragraph 6, no reference was presented.

The introducing of moderators should be strengthened.

Innovation and organizational performance both have their broad ranges, in that there are different types of innovation and organizational performance. Though innovation type has been employed as your moderator, you may still have to explain the rationale for defining these types.

Discussion section should be strengthened. Please clearly explain the novelty your results have in comparing with existing studies.
