Subject: modeling and visualization of terrain in 3D. 

Introduction 

This practical work allows the student to experiment with different manipulation and

visualization of spatial data in a 3D environment. These are the operations of

rotation, translation and scaling as well as perspective visualization. These

operations will be developed for the purpose of visualizing and manipulating a TIN.

Project implementation

In practical work 2, you made a TIN using Delaunay triangulation.

The purpose of this work is to add some operations to the tool developed to enable

perspective visualization of a digital model of the field. For the realization of this project,

follow these steps:

1. Preparing your program

For this project you will use a file of points x, y and z for the construction of your

digital terrain model. It is therefore necessary to allow the user to read and store these

data in a table. 

2. Creation of TIN

In this step, you must create a TIN using only the x and y coordinates of the

points, while associating the z-values with the respective vertices. That way you go

Establish the topological relationships between the vertices of your digital terrain model.

3. Visualization of the model in 3D

From this step, we only visualize the network of irregular triangles in 3D. So,

the topological relationships do not change with this operation. Rotation, translation and

scaling will also be applied to the model as a whole and will not change the

binders between the vertices of the triangulation. For the perspective visualization of the model, we

considers that the observer is located at a distance of (Xmin + Xmax) / 2 units of the screen (d). The

program should allow the user to perform the following operations on the 3D model:

 90 degree rotation around the X axis

 360 degree rotation around the Y axis

 Rotate 90 degrees around the Z axis

 Translation in the X and Y and Z directions

 Scaling

It should be noted that rotations will be performed around the center of the model. After each

operation (the center of the model will be calculated according to xmin, ymin, xmax, ymax) we apply the

Perspective projection matrix for viewing 3D results.
