Analyse the financial statements of two organisations in the same business stream for the last 3
years.(AMAZON and ALIBABA) 2018-2019-2020 Compare and reflect on the financial performances of the two companies as a
Management Accountant and advise the two companies using tools such as:
• Comparative analysis (Vertical and Horizontal)
• Ratio analysis
• Balance scorecard
Ensure to demonstrate the following in your advice:
(a) You are required to draw a Strategy Map (SM) for each company from the information
that can be collected from the annual reports and other company resources. Identify the
key strategies (i.e. pricing, costing) of the two organisations and discuss what makes the
two organisations distinct and unique? (20pts)
(b) Based on your findings in question (a) evaluate, compare, and contrast on the
companies’ financial performance using ratio analysis (30 pts)
(i) Short-term solvency or liquidity ratios
(ii) Long-term solvency or financial leverage ratios
(iii) Turnover or Asset Management ratios
(iv) Profitability ratios
(v) Market value ratios
(c) Identify the financial strengths and weaknesses of the sector and country context your
case applies by establishing relationships between the items of the balance sheet and
the income statement (Comparative analysis or any other approach is acceptable. Use
only one approach) (20 pts)
(d) Develop a new vision/goal for each company you selected. Based on the new vision/goal
draw a SM and design a Balance Scorecard (BSC) for each of the two organisations (a
BSC for each firm selected). Using the Balanced Scorecard you have developed
evaluate, and provide actionable strategies which will positively impact on the
companies’ performance as per your findings on question (c) on the following thematic
areas; (30 pts)
(i) Short and long-term solvency
(ii) Company profitability
(iii) Qualitative factors which should be adopte
