Each report should be as succinct as possible. The length is not relevant, only the content.
Keep the language as simple and as accurate as possible.

Both reports should use IMRaD
Both reports should be completed in LaTeX, using the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL) conference template, which can be found on the overleap site below.

1. - Stats

Choose a research question and the annually annotated data that goes with it and apply it to 4 techniques. Different techniques would be appropriate for different research questions so make sure you think about your choices.

2. - Corpora

Choose a corpus (either one from Davies BYU or one from Sketch engine). The choice of data will determine the results, so it is important to think about it.

Run 2 collocation studies for 2 different research questions (2 each - think of two different ways of looking at the question, for two different questions)
The choice of what kind of collocations you are looking for will determine the results, so it is important to think about it.

Present the results and interpret them for each of the 4 studies. There is no need to present the entire lists of collocates, only what is needed to interpret the results.


Marking system
Marks will be awarded based on 4 criteria (25% for each)

1. Study Design - the relationship between choice of corpora, choice of question, choice of statistics, technique, choice of type of collocate / colligation.

The choice will show whether you understand the techniques and how (not) to use them.

2. The actual analysis itself -
For stats: please include the R history, so I can see what has gone wrong if something has.
For corpora: explain your search terms in your report.

3. Results and Discussion - The interpretation of the results (screenshots of the stats are fine and shorts lists of relevant collocates for the collocations studies are fine)

4. Professionalism - language accuracy and LaTeX proficiency
